Asian Region - Francis Gilfedder
Francis is a multi-talented artist performing in a variety of genres, from Didjeridu to Shakuhachi, playing unusual wind instruments from Japan, Laos, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Thailand, North America, the Phillipines and Australia.
His extensive study and experience in several genres of Asian performing Arts has contributed towards many Aesthetic and Community projects in Australia and Internationally for the past 20 years.
He has performed at Temple ceremonies in Bali, Contemporary Arts Festivals in Java, the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art in Brisbane, and frequent presentations at the Woodford Folk Festival.
- Presented Sumatran and Balinese flute music for the concert ”Sarong to Sari” at the Woodford Folk Festival 08/09
- Also at the Woodford Folk Festival joined Japanese Shamisen sensation Noriko Tadano in a piece with flute and voice based on music heard in a dream.
- Combined didjeridu with Shakuhachi for the Queen Street Mall Australia Day celebrations.
- Invited by Chinese Community to present music at the Chinese New year Celebrations, Fortitude Valley, QLD.
