Japanese Music - Koto and Shakuhachi
Takako & Carl perform traditional and modern Japanese music with Koto and Shakuhachi. Carl commenced his study of the Shakuhachi in 1975 in Okinawa in the Tozan Tradition.
After some years travelling he returned to Japan and studied with Sakai Chikuho, head of the Chikuho School in Osaka.
Since returning to Australia Carl has studied with Riley Lee in Sydney and Kakizakai Kaoru in Japan. Carl spent much of 2000 studying with Master Kakizakai.
Takako began her study of the Koto at the age of six. She studied under the famous Koto Great Master Shizu Fujino from the Ikuta Ryu Miyagi school of Koto. From an early age, she also began performing in public.
Takako has started her Shamisen career in 1990. In 2000, Takako got her teaching license from the Miyagi school of Tokyo. She passed both her Koto and Shamisen exams, scoring an impressive mark.
