Welcome to Country - Song Woman Maroochy

Songwoman Maroochy is the Songwoman & Law-woman of the Turrbal People – the original inhabitants of Brisbane.  She is a direct descendant of Daki Yakka – Chief of the Old Brisbane tribe –

Song Woman Maroochy

a man nicknamed “the Duke of York” by the European settlers in the Moreton Bay area in the 1830s.

Songwoman Maroochy joins us to perform a Traditional Blessing of this gathering in accordance with the Turrbal traditional laws and customs.

The Traditional Welcome to Country is delivered in  songs in Turrbal language.  Songwoman Maroochy also shares some aspects of the Turrbal People history in Brisbane with guests.

Its duration is approx 7-10minutes.
